What is a Bond?

A bond is a security where the investor gives the organization (e.g. a government or corporation) money and issuer agrees to repay the money at the end of a specified period (e.g. 60 days, ten years) along with periodic interest payments (also called the coupon). The U.S. Federal Governement issues a bonds in a wide range of maturities that typically pay interest twice a year. More information is available on the Resources page.
